The hydrangea plant is commonly found around residential and business establishments, it is prized for its large clusters of blooming blue, pink, and purple flowers. Although they are native to Asia, they can be found all over the world and since they are easy to grow and maintain, requiring little outside care in the right weather conditions. Although some forms of hydrangea are toxic, certain teas can be made from specific species of hydrangea which can offer various benefits for those that drink it. This tea is sweet in flavor and usually made from the root of the hydrangea plant.

Supports Kidney & Urinary Health

For thousands of years, Native Americans have used hydrangea tea to help fight various illnesses and ailments. Among these, this tea was first and foremost an aid for proper kidney health. With its ability to treat kidney and bladder problems, hydrangea tea is very much a diuretic, meaning that it can promote and encourage the flow of urine. This is useful for those that are suffering from kidney stones, bladder infections, or other urinary and kidney related problems. Since hydrangea is known as an anti-lithic herb it is suitable for the prevention of kidney stones. Another benefit is that hydrangea tea is advantageous in helping those that suffer from prostatitis. For those that experience this disease, they will find that discomfort and pain will continue long after treatment. Luckily, hydrangea tea can help with this by working as a prostate tonic which is essential for fully healing someone who has prostatitis.

Vitamin & Minerals Galore

Hydrangea tea also has a plentiful amount of vitamins and minerals to offer those that drink it. Among the list of nutrients to be found in this tea, some of the essential constituents to be found are calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, and zinc. These beneficial vitamins and nutrients are great for offering that little extra health boost for your body.

May help to fight Autoimmune Disorders

Another excellent use for this tea is that it can help heal autoimmune disorders. Scientific research has shown that hydrangea tea contains a substance known as halofuginone which has shown an ability to treat autoimmune disorders. Halofuginones can stop the over-production of Th17 cells, which may be the underlying cause behind the poor response of the immune system.  What’s even better is that halofuginones can do this without disrupting the rest of the immune system unlike other medicines that have been tried.

Preparation: To prepare hydrangea tea take one tea bag, or teaspoon per cup of hot water and allow it to steep for 4 to 6 minutes. Sweeteners can be added but are not always necessary for some so this is more of a choice of preference. A small amount of milk can also be added to this tea for additional flavour if prefered.
